<description>"Multiply" by The Dozens is a series of five animated music videos done in the spirit of collaboration, rock star fantasy, and social project. The Dozens hope to inspire your inner rock star and invite others to form their own band and multiply. Dozens group members include: Denise Burge, Tracy Featherstone, Latitia Quesenbery, Lisa Siders-Kenney, Jennifer Ustick, and Elaine Lynch. Each individual was selected by Burge based on a latent extension of herself she was able to recognize in another. Dozens members worked with Burge to form a band for the duration of a single song and animated video.

<description>Fort Sculptures are inspired by a trip to Ghana, West Africa and the simultaneous purchase of my first home.  The series uses the language of home such as furniture, textiles, and construction elements to express the awkward, fragile, and unstable relationships within.

<description>Wearable Structures materialize our daily struggle between control and chaos. The balance is precarious and can tip one way or another in an instant.  Building materials traditionally used to construct living environments or other architectural securities are used in a frenetic fashion.  Quickly, and maybe hopelessly trying to impose order on a situation that is moving out of control.  The traditional role of structure or stability becomes mobile when placed on the figure allowing the individual to indulge in the illusion of stability.  The mobile/wearable element of the work further subverts attempts of control and order.  Similar to the way water will carve a new path around an obstruction, participant finds new ways to move about daily routines in ordinary fashion.

<description>Black Forest Project is a collaborative group is comprised of Lisa Siders, Denise Burge, Tracy Featherstone, and Jennifer Ustick. The exhibition “Do You Know the Shape of Desire?” combines photography, drawings, sculpture, and video projects made in the forests of Germany and the Midwestern states USA. As individuals, each of us in Black Forest Project has drawn from our heritage and landscape, from German roots, to the Rocky and Appalachian mountains. Together, we have used this to develop projects based on personal fantasy about the forest, and enlisted one another’s assistance in carrying them out. We worked in pine forests in Germany and in old-growth forests in the Midwest, exploiting the specific ecology of both regions.

Our interest is mostly concerned with the feelings provoked by the forest. Historic and folkloric connections between Germany and the Midwest lay fertile ground for discovery and play. We ventured out to soak up the forest minerals with our feet and absorb the unpredictability of the force surrounding us. Once fully intoxicated with our surroundings, we brought roots, leaves, and bark inside to tame into our personal vision. The hotel room became the staging area for replaying our outdoor adventures. As our interior space became slave to the external forces of the forest, we carved soap, made drawings, re-cycled and projected imagery for our activities, and mapped our fantasies onto the room. In this work we are looking at and identifying with ‘nature’ through a lens that both distances us from it and places us intimately within it. By creating idealized interior landscapes, our goal is to make work about the psychological space of the forest, how we think and feel about it as an archetype of the natural world.

<description>Creating experimental relationships with the world around you.

Why do I move through my environment in isolation when it is so obviously alive, breathing and reaching out to touch me? When there seem to be such intense opportunities for exchange and interpenetration? I walk down the sidewalk and find the branch of a tree gingerly grazing my cheek. A lamppost runs its light over my skin. What happens if I return the caress?
Envirotouchers are artists Tracy Featherstone and Krista Connerly’s response to these questions. A series of prototypes for a more connected world, they seek to replace rationality with sensuality and isolation with relationship. We often get stuck in a relationship-rut with our environment, wearing down the same path to work and back or ignoring the (arguably) tender call of a car-alarm. Envirotouchers offers a simple and playful solution to this by allowing us re-imagine our selves and our relationship to our built and natural environment. Through this series of actions and wearable sculptures individuals can experiment with and ultimately create new and individualized environmental connections.

Snowball Carrier is a protective device that enables an individual to carry part of the environment with them throughout the day. It allows the individual and snowball to maintain a temporary intimate relationship despite the obvious difficulties they may present to each other.

Building Snuggle forms an intimate space in which both individual and environment can lay together and absorb each other’s feelings.
Sandmounds are a collaboration between human and sand. The sculptures create a place for reflection and vacation fantasy.

Parking Lot Drawing requires its participants to interact with an often-overlooked part of their everyday environment. Individuals align their body with a parking lot line and absorb the trials and tribulations of a line that is bound to a singular place. After having some time to bond, individuals use their new connection with the line in order to honor the desires of the line for a fleeting, but sustaining, moment.
